Okorocha: Running Imo like family business

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has recently attracted strong condemnations for erected statues of visiting President Jacob Zuma of South Africa and Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia. How Adeboye saved me from death in plane crash – Oyedepo

Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (LFCWW), David Oyedepo, has revealed how he almost died in a plane crash recently. Speaking at the church headquarters on Friday, Oyedepo says before the trip, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye visited him unannounced and prayed for him. It was the third time Bishop Oyedepo would be involved in near air mishap. Narrating how this third and most recent accident happened, a pastor in the church, Adebisi, read the report from the aircraft’s pilot, Captain Samuel Adegoga. “The main malfunction we had in the Cyprus-Israel flight was a stabilizer twin-motor failure. Tagbo’s brother speaks on Davido’s absence at burial

Tagbo’s brother, Chigbo has revealed that Nigerian pop artiste, Davido, did not attend the burial ceremony of his friend, Tagbo Umeike on Friday. Tagbo, allegedly died of alcohol after spending his birthday with Davido and his crew in Lagos. The young man was buried in his hometown in Anambra State yesterday. Tagbo’s brother, Chigbo told Punch that although his brother’s life was cut short unexpectedly, his burial went according to plans. He said , “My brother was buried on Friday and it is so sad that we have lost someone with a big heart. “However , Davido was not present at the burial neither did he send a representative but at this point, we have no comment on that. “I would miss my brother a lot because he had a big heart. BREAKING: 2,000 Nigeria police personnel protest over non-payment of salaries

No fewer than 2,000 Police personnel attached to the Kaduna State Command are currently protesting over the non-payment of their August and September salaries. The aggrieved police personnel which cut across the rank and file of the Command, are assembled in front of the Salaries Office inside the Command headquarters in Kaduna Town. Addressing the aggrieved personnel, the State Commissioner of Police, Cyril Abeh, explained that the delay was from the Finance Ministry’s IPPS office and not the fault of the police. “They are police officers operating under the law, if they misbehave, we will deal with them according to the law. Buhari nominates Aishah Ahmad as new CBN Deputy Governor

President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of Mrs Aishah Ahmad to the Senate for confirmation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. Mrs Ahmad is expected to replace former CBN Deputy Governor, who retired early in the year. According to statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president presented Mrs Ahmad’s name to the senate in accordance with the provisions of “Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007.” The statement quoted the President as urging the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, “To consider the expeditious confirmation of Mrs Ahmad, who would then resume work immediately.” Also Buhari has written to the Senate, seeking the confirmation of the appointment of members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the CBN. Monkeypox Doctor, 10 others infected as deadly virus breaks out in Bayelsa

The residents of Bayelsa State are currently living in fear as a new deadly epidemic known as "monkeypox" broke out in the state. About 11 persons including a medical doctor, who have been infected with the virus, are said to have been quarantined at the in an isolation center at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri in the Yenagoa. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the epidemiological team are reportedly tracking 49 other persons who were said to have come in contact with the victims. Confirming the epidemic, the state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, said that samples of the virus had been sent to the World Health Organisation laboratory in Dakar, Senegal for confirmation. Etebu described monkeypox as a viral illness caused by a group of viruses that include chicken pox and small pox. FG Bans Songs By Olamide, Davido, 9ice

The National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, has banned five songs by Olamide, Davido and 9ice, having considered them offensive for broadcast, according to online portal, Premium Times. The banned songs are Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“; and 9ice’s “Living Things.” The corporation released the list yesterday, saying it banned the five songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves. The Federal Ministry of Health had in a tweet on Friday, said the video to Olamide’s “Wo” violated the Tobacco Control Act 2015. The 28-year-old rapper, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, had returned to Ladi Lak in Bariga where he was raised to shoot the video of his latest single. “This is our position: video contravenes the act. BREAKING: Buhari extends vacation, writes National Assembly

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has extended his 10-day vacation and has written to the National Assembly to that effect. The letter signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made available to Tribune Online by the Personal Assistant to the president on Media engagement, Bashir Ahmad, stated that the extension was necessitated in order for the president to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors. Part of the letter reads: “The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening (Sunday), but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. “The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives. Mr President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes.”
