THE MOVEMENT OF IGEDE PEOPLE
All the Igede people who have crossed the seven tributaries of river Oyongo, rested at the side of
Utukenge in Uwokwu area of Igede land and then moved to a place called Ipinu Igede ( forest of Igede ) a place where Igede people first settled and formed the Igede family who have today re- migrated to form the clans of Igede people are all known AA home based Igede tribe today. There is no doubt that the vast land has few individuals that could live on the land and who are now assimilated by language spoken and culture of the Igede majority too. There were some Igede families whose clan names seemed to disappear and decline due to cultural affiliation by the authorities of the then Igede people. What is popular and Paramount today are the units which Igede people grouped themselves. The Any' Ogede ( Igede children ) have shared themselves in the course of relocation and re - migration from their first place of settlement popularly known as "Ipinu Igede" where Epwadi of the entire Igede people was formed and situated till date at Ada Iyeche of Oju local government Area of Benue State. Meanwhile , these families have grown to form recognized Igede traditional clans that could also have known as Igede sons or "Upuma NY' Igede".
THE SONS OF IGEDE (UPUMA NY IGEDE)
1. Ada - Senior sons of Igede
2. Ocheche
3. Ugbodu
4. Amono
5. Ogbagba
6. Ochimadu
7. Aganyi
8. Adoinu ( Otakom )
9. Adito
10. Olelega
11. Odum
12. Aditekpa
13 Adigab
14. Okpogo ( the last son of Igede ). These above were how the Igede components are today recognized. It may also be good to explain them for their easy location ( Imwawu) as below: a) Ada today is known to be Iyeche
b) Ocheche - Anchim
c) Ugbodu - Oye
d) Amono - Ukpa
e) Ogbagba - Oboru
f) Ochimadu - Owo
g) Aganyi - IBILLA
h) Adoinu - (Otakom ) Ainu
I) Adoto - Into ( Majorly Obi LGA )
j) Olelega - Uwokwu
k) Odum - Idele
l) Aditakpa - Itakpa
m) Adigabu - Gabu
n) Anyokpogo ( Ad' Oju ) Oju
Thus Igede people are sub-divided and organized into fourteen (14) States led by clan heads and governed by Adutu as their overall paramount and cultural leader. There are Also Adikobias , beaded chiefs, elders (Igabwo ) Idumale ( headman ) and town criers that govern the grass root communities to enhance peace and dissemination of information. Today the district head ( Okwubi ) and ward heads work directly under the paramount ruler as Other chiefs work under them. LOADING..........
